A Tranquil Oasis in Vanuatu: Aore Island Resort
Just a short ferry ride from Luganville, Aore Island Resort offers a secluded paradise where tranquility meets adventure. This hidden gem in Vanuatu provides an unforgettable escape with luxurious accommodations, pristine beaches, and a wealth of activities for every traveler.
Luxurious Beachfront Living
Imagine waking up to the gentle lapping of waves just steps from your private beachfront bungalow. Aore Island Resort offers a range of beautifully appointed bungalows scattered along the beach, each providing a secluded haven with stunning ocean views. Our bungalow, number five, featured a private beach area, a beachfront balcony, and a comfortable interior with island-inspired décor. The simple yet modern design ensured a relaxing and luxurious stay.
Inside, the bungalows offer all the modern amenities you need, including Australian and New Zealand style power outlets. The daybed provides a perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring, while the queen bed promises a restful night's sleep.
Resort Amenities and Dining
Aore Island Resort boasts a stunning 12-meter swimming pool overlooking the turquoise waters, perfect for a refreshing dip. The Nakamal, the resort's central hub, houses a lounge, bar, and restaurant where guests can enjoy delicious meals throughout the day. We were particularly impressed with the quality of the food, from fresh seafood to tender pork belly and melt-in-your-mouth beef ribs. The breakfast buffet was a highlight, featuring fresh fruit, pastries, and local specialties like papaya boats with homemade muesli.
The resort's beach bar offers a picturesque setting for enjoying a cocktail while watching the sunset. The friendly staff adds to the warm and welcoming atmosphere, making you feel right at home.
Exploring Beyond the Resort: Luganville and Million Dollar Point
While the resort offers plenty to keep you occupied, venturing out to explore Luganville and the surrounding area is a must. We joined Santo Heritage Tours, led by our knowledgeable guide Francis, for a fascinating tour of Luganville, Vanuatu's second-largest city. The local market provided a glimpse into everyday life, while the World War II museum and the remnants of military bases offered a unique historical perspective.
Million Dollar Point, a site where the US military dumped millions of dollars worth of equipment after World War II, is a truly remarkable sight. Snorkeling amongst the submerged machinery is a surreal experience, a tangible reminder of a fascinating piece of history.
Island Hopping and Cultural Immersion
Aore Island is the perfect jumping-off point for exploring the surrounding islands. We embarked on a memorable day trip to Malo Island, where we encountered sea turtles, cruised through pristine rivers, and relaxed on secluded beaches. The clear blue waters and vibrant coral reefs offer incredible snorkeling opportunities.
Interacting with the local community, like the family with their adorable pack of dogs on Malo Island, adds a special touch to the Vanuatu experience. The warmth and hospitality of the locals make this destination truly special.
