A Culinary Journey Through Prague: Unveiling the Top 8 Foodie Spots

Prague, a city steeped in history and culture, also boasts a surprisingly diverse and exciting food scene. From traditional Czech taverns serving hearty goulash to trendy cafes offering innovative breakfast dishes, there's something to tantalize every palate. Join us as we recount our culinary adventure through Prague, highlighting the 8 best foodie spots that left us craving more.

Indulging in Prague's Culinary Delights

1. U Parlamentu: A Traditional Czech Gem

Topping our list is U Parlamentu, a casual yet stylish restaurant nestled in the heart of Old Town. This spot was a recommendation from our walking tour guide, and it didn't disappoint. The goulash was rich and flavorful, the meat melting in your mouth. The chicken schnitzel with buttery parsley potatoes was equally satisfying. And of course, no visit to a Czech restaurant is complete without a perfectly poured beer, even with its characteristically large head!

This is a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic taste of Czech cuisine in a lively, central location. The hearty portions and reasonable prices make it an excellent value for your money.

2. Eska: A Michelin-Recommended Breakfast Haven

Venturing slightly outside the city center, we discovered Eska, a Michelin Bib Gourmand-recognized cafe. This trendy spot exceeded our expectations with its innovative breakfast menu and surprisingly affordable prices. We couldn't resist trying the sausages, scrambled eggs, and the house specialty – potatoes in ash. The coffee was also exceptional, making it a 10 out of 10 breakfast experience.

Eska is well worth the short trip from the main tourist area. Don't miss the chance to sample their signature ash potatoes, a truly unique and delicious dish.

3. Trdelník & Coffee: Chimney Cake Heaven

No trip to Prague is complete without indulging in a Trdelník, or chimney cake. While technically Hungarian, these sweet treats are ubiquitous in Prague. We found the best one at Trdelník & Coffee in the Jewish Quarter. We opted for the classic combination of Nutella and soft serve ice cream, and it was pure bliss. The warm, fluffy chimney cake paired perfectly with the creamy ice cream and rich Nutella.

Be prepared for a sugar rush, but it's definitely worth it! This is the perfect treat to enjoy while exploring the charming streets of Prague.

4. The Alchemist Bar: A Cocktail Connoisseur's Dream

The Alchemist Bar in Old Town is a must-visit for cocktail lovers. This candlelit bar boasts an extensive cocktail list, and every drink we tried was a masterpiece. The intimate atmosphere and expertly crafted cocktails made it the perfect date night spot. We spent hours here, happily working our way through the menu.

If you're looking for a sophisticated and romantic evening in Prague, The Alchemist Bar is the place to be.

5. Sad Man's Tongue Bar and Bistro: Burgers and Edgy Vibes

Sad Man's Tongue is a popular burger joint known for its edgy vibes and top-rated burgers. We tried the bacon jam burger and the mango chutney burger, both of which were delicious. However, the hour-long wait for a table slightly dampened the experience.

While the burgers were good, the long wait time might not be worth it for everyone. However, the unique atmosphere and tasty sides, like the blue cheese chicken tenders, make it a worthwhile consideration.

6. Parliament Restaurant: Traditional Czech Feast

For a truly traditional Czech dining experience, head to Parliament Restaurant. This bustling spot is popular with locals and offers a menu filled with hearty classics. We enjoyed the shredded beef dumpling dish and the confit duck, both of which were incredibly flavorful and filling.

Be prepared for large portions and rich flavors. This is the perfect place to experience a traditional Czech meal in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

7. Christmas Market Food: Festive Treats

While the Christmas Market food didn't quite make it to the top of our list, it was still a delicious experience. We enjoyed the langos with garlic and cheese, the wood-smoked ham, and the grilled smoked cheese.

The Christmas markets offer a variety of festive treats and are a great way to soak up the holiday atmosphere.

8. Cafe Savoy: Luxurious Brunch

Cafe Savoy offers a luxurious brunch experience in a beautiful historical setting. We enjoyed the French breakfast and the decadent nougat crepes, along with some mimosas. However, be prepared for a potential wait, as this popular spot often has a queue.

If you're looking for a fancy brunch in a stunning setting, Cafe Savoy is a great choice, but consider making a reservation to avoid the wait.

Honorable Mentions

We also want to give a shout-out to two other spots we enjoyed: a cute cafe with delicious cheese toasty and excellent coffee, and America 32, an underground bar with cool vibes and tasty cocktails in the Vinohrady district.

A Culinary Adventure Awaits

Prague's food scene surprised and delighted us with its diverse offerings. From traditional Czech dishes to modern culinary creations, there's something for everyone in this vibrant city. We hope this guide inspires you to embark on your own culinary adventure through Prague.
